Human Touch Online Counseling
Welcome to my practice! I am a mental health counselor in private practice who specializes in helping individuals (teens through adults) who need help with anxiety, racial and adoption identity, potential adoptive parent exploration, grief, life adjustments, depression, and/or trauma recovery. I provide a variety of therapeutic approaches, and lean towards person-centered and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (a third-generation CBT approach) with my clients. I am also committed to psycho-education as a way of empowering my clients.

I am currently licensed in the State of Maryland as an LCPC and can treat any Maryland resident who struggles with issues within the scope of my specialties.

Fees and insurance: I accept CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Regional Participating Preferred Provider Network, Participating Provider Network, and BlueChoice Provider Network medical insurance plans.
For private pay clients, or out-of-network clients, I charge a flat rate of $120 per counseling session, payable by credit card. Please note that I cannot accept cash or money orders as payment due to the remote nature of my business.
I can provide you with a Superbill if you wish to submit these charges for reimbursement by your insurance provider (check with your provider for the percentage they will reimburse).

WELCOME
Welcome to my practice! Seeking help can be scary: not sure what to expect? not sure if you need help? not sure where to begin? not sure of the expense? Please bring your questions and concerns to me when you reach out. I am not here to do anything but help you on your own journey towards happiness. Let's talk!
About
Brenda Yuen
I graduated in May, 2017 from Johns Hopkins University with a master of science in counseling. Since then, I’ve been a trusted partner for my clients in order to help them achieve healthy and balanced personal lives and relationships. As a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LCPC License #LC12553, expires 1/31/2026) in the State of Maryland, I’m deeply committed to being there when Marylanders need me most—helping you explore, heal, and move forward towards a more satisfying life. This is my second career built out of passion, after my own counseling experience that was life-changing! I am married and have two children who are 20 and 22, and have lived in Maryland since 2001. My family is multi-racial and my children are adopted from China.

For ages 15-18 years old: Please let me help you empower yourself to make your own decisions and life choices as you head into young adulthood.. Together, we’ll identify the roadblocks you’re dealing with and find the solution best suited to your goals and strengths.
If you are struggling with anxiety-related issues, depression, life transitions, adoption/racial and multi-racial identity, grief, loss, and relational trauma, I would love to help you. The hardest part is asking for help and recognizing you are not alone in your struggles. Our focus will be on the importance of your own power, and gaining confidence and comfort in exercising it.
If you feel that no one could possibly understand your struggles, or help you work through them, please know that I have walked with others who are struggling through these issues and I have a passion for helping you too. Your path towards intentional living, with goals and values that match your own unique set of strengths and needs will lead you to good decision-making, and open up doors that you now feel are limiting you or closed for you.
If you believe we might be a good fit, reach out to me below to book a session today!

For ages 18 and up: Your struggles are unique. When anxiety's got it's grip on your thoughts and beliefs, you can feel powerless and alone. I will help you work through your own set of struggles, fully recognize and embrace your strengths, and help you adjust to a new way of thinking about yourself and your life.
If you struggle with anxiety and/or depression, life adjustments, grief, loss, racial and multi-racial identity issues, adoptive parent exploration, or relational challenges, please reach out.
Mental health education is one of the tools we will use to empower you to make the changes you seek, and encourage you to focus on more intentional life choices. We will work to change those negative thoughts and beliefs into more realistic and empowering ones.

I provide an online-only teletherapy counseling service which requires you have access to an adequate WiFi connection, updated hardware features to support video and audio connection, and a room with a door that provides privacy and promotes safe, open communication. It's best to use a laptop, computer, or iPad for this connection, as a smartphone can drop calls when incoming calls interrupt.
Always empty your device's cache and charge up your device prior to our sessions.
My Maryland license allows me to treat Marylanders from within the State of Maryland (when taking business trips or vacations away from Maryland, my license is not currently portable or recognized by most other states).
Please note that there is NO RECORDING of these sessions and none is allowed. As required by HIPPA laws, you need to locate in a room with a closed door, without others present, to ensure privacy. All of my remote counseling is conducted in an office with the door closed and a white noise machine outside the door, with no one else present.
